Without disclosing the reasons for the termination, the New York State Unified Court System has fired George Raus, terminating his position as “family court referee.”
From the article, there is a quote by David Bookstaver on behalf of the Office for Court Administration:
Mr. Raus was the subject of a lengthy inspector general’s investigation and at the culmination of a very through, protracted investigation he was terminated.
The details and outcome of the investigation are not publicly available at this time. Though he duties are to end on October 6th, 2009 – George Raus has not heard any cases since he was removed from his duties during the investigation by the Inspector General’s Office.
One can only wonder what prompted such a “lengthy” investigation which culminated in George Raus’ termination from a position that holds sway over people’s lives. We hope the details become public and those affected by his alleged behavior are made aware of the situation and can seek remedies for any alleged violations against them.
